THE COLLEGE

The College of Physiotherapy is approved by Govt. of Punjab and is affiliated with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot and also affiliated with Indian Association of Physiotherapist (IAP). The College was established in the year 2000-01 on the main Kotkapura-Muktsar road in the holy city of Muktsar. The aim of the under graduate course in Physiotherapy is to impart in-depth knowledge and skills to a student to become competent enough in techniques of Physiotherapy, develop the proper attitude required for the independent practice of physiotherapy.


PROFILE OF PRINCIPAL

The College of Physiotherapy, a unit of Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences is headed by committed & dedicated Principal Dr. Soma Mazumdar (MSPT, MIAP, MIASM) who rationalizes professionalism with the growth of the future of the current generation. She has graduated from Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwac University, Vadodhara, Gujrat and has post graduated from department Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

She is still pursuing her higher study in the field of Physiotherapy and has presented Scientified papers in International Conference of Physiotherapy and National Conference of Indian Association of Physiotherapy. She is a life member Indian Association of Physiotherapy and Indian Association of Sports Medicine.



OBJECTIVES (PHYSIOTHERAPY)

The objectives of under-graduate course in physiotherapy is to:
1. Acquire adequate knowledge of basic medical subjects required in the practice of Physiotherapy.
2. Develop skills & technique of therapeutic message and exercise for the management of various medical & surgical conditions.
3. Development of proper attitude for the compassion and concern for the individuals & welfare of the Physically handicapped in the community.
4. Demonstrates skills in teaching, management, research guidance & counseling.
5. Practice moral & ethical values and uphold the dignity of physiotherapy profession by participating in the various professional activities.


DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOTHERAPY

The department of physiotherapy has the latest modalities & equipments for treatment of patients and for the teaching of students. The department of Physiotherapy has following OPD’s:

The Department of Electrotherapy has Faradic & Galvanic stimulator, TENS, Interferential therapy, Short wave diathermy, Microwave diathermy, Laser therapy, Ultrasonic therapy and Cervical & Lumbar traction unit.
The Department of Exercise therapy has Ramps & steps, Parallel bars, Guthrie Smith Suspension frame, Shoulder wheel, Quadriceps table, Treadmill & Static cycle, Medicine balls, Weight & pulley circuits, Exercising equipments for all peripheral joints.

FACILITIES

The College of Physiotherapy is having its own attached Hospital. The Adesh Hospital & Research Centre is a 300 bedded modern hospital with 24 hours Emergency, ICU, ICCU, Special wards and General wards, Consultation for the following departments are available round the clock: Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Eye, ENT, Chest & TB, Psychiatry, Gyane, Paediatrics, Dentistry etc. Facilities like Blood bank, Dialysis unit, Lithotrispy, Laparoscopic surgery, Endoscopic surgery, Neonate care unit and Poison management Centre etc are also available. Operation theatre complex consists of C-arm image intensifier, Operating microscopes, Medisys anesthesia machines and Centre gases & suction. Radiology department consists of X-Ray machines, Ultrasonography and CT Scan. MRI scan has been installed at Adesh Diagnostics, Bathinda. Laboratory services are running round the clock with all the facilities like fully Automatic Analyser, ELISA Reader, MS4 Cell Counter and Arterial blood gas analyzer. Pathology, Microbiology & Biochemistry tests are available here round the clock. Other diagnostic test like Computerized ECG, TMT, EEG & NCV tests are available.

LABORATORIES

1. ANATOMY: Very well stocked Anatomy lab. With human skeletons, set of bones, visceral organ specimen, model charts and posters.


2. PHYSIOLOGY: Well equipped lab. With haemocytometers, Neubar chamber, BP apparatus, Stethoscopes, Automated cell counter etc.


3. MICROBIOLOGY: Well equipped lab. With microscope, autoclaves, incubators, hot air oven, facilities for blood, urine and pus culture.

4. BIOCHEMISTERY: Well equipped lab. With fully automated analyzer, semi automated analyzer, ELISA reader, electrolyte analyzer (ISE), arterial blood gas analyzer etc.

LIBRARY

The College has well equipped library with all latest books including books on basic medical sciences and on Physiotherapy. All major national and international journals are subscribed for the library. The library receives all major national daily newspaper.

HOSTEL & MESS FACILITY:

Hostel facility is an available separately for boys and girls. Hostels are well equipped with all modern amenities and are made properly secured. Hostels are run under the supervision of wardens. Mess facility is also available for the students.

CANTEEN & STD-PCO:

Canteen & STD-PCO facilities are also available inside the campus.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

a) Qualification : Candidates must have passed 10+1 & 10+2 ( Medical) regular or equivalent examination in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 35% marks ( Pass marks for SC/ST/BC) taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 10+2 examination.
Supplementary Examination: - The candidate who clear the qualifying examination in supplementary batch (due to compartment etc.) are eligible for admission. They are required to submit a proof of having cleared the said examination at the time of interview.
b) Age :- The candidate must have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31st December 2007.
c) Mode of Admission:
Government Quota Seats-50%
Management Quota Seats-50 %

GOVERNMENT QUOTA SEATS: The Government quota seats would be filled up by the Admissions Committee appointed by the Government on the basis of merit in PPMET-2007, only except, it provided otherwise.
MANAGEMENT QUOTA SEATS: The management quota seats would be filled up by a Central Admission committee strictly on the basis of merit in the PPMET-2007, except, if provided otherwise. After the counseling of PPMET, the remaining seats of management quota seats would be filled up be the direct admission in this institution on the basis of merit and as per the norms of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.
NRI SEATS: 15% of total seats will be part of management Quota. The candidate seeking admission against NRI seats in the College of Physiotherapy will be admitted on merit determined by the university on issuing eligibility certificate.

NRI’s candidate will be given weightage by the following way:
First preference will be given to NRI’s having ancestral origin in Punjab.
Second preference will be given to NRI’s having ancestral origin in states other than Punjab.
Third Preference will be given to those Indian candidates who are sponsored by the NRI’s.
Fourth preference will be given to those candidates who are willing to pay the fee in Indian currency equivalent to the stipulated fee.

DURATION OF THE COURSE :

41/2 years of duration (including 6 month of internship)

a) Fees: Every candidate will have to pay fees (on annual basis) as decided by Govt. of Punjab & Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot and the same will be charged for Govt. and management seats.

b) Hostel Fee: Hostel Security is refundable once after the completion of course and after clearing all dues.
With attached toilet: Hostel Rent : Rs 13000/-; Hostel Security : Rs. 2000/- ;
With common toilet: Hostel Rent : Rs. 11000/-; Hostel Security : Rs. 2000/- ;

6) Mess Changes: Rs. 700/- p.m. (Subject to changes with inflation)

PLACEMENT UNITS:

The college also runs placement unit for the benefit of the students.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

MEDICAL CAMP: Free medical camps are organized from time to time for better exposure of the students and to develop their diagnostic and treatment skills.

NSS CAMP: NSS unit has been established. NSS activities are being held regularly. College has established itself in cultural activities by holding successful annual function. Students also participated in number of inter college contests and won prizes.

SPORTS: An annual sports meet is held every year for the physical development of the students.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

All top positions of BFUHS, Faridkot bagged by the students of our college in last examination.
100% result for BPT 3rd Prof. Several (Total 39) distinctions.
Winners of Several Conferences at state, north India & Nation levels.
